With Ricky Lake and Sally Jesse Raphael apparently busy with other projects, Showtime has tapped Montel Williams to host American Candidate. The show’s news item about Montel’s appointment says “he has had years of experience interviewing and producing captivating stories about issues facing all types of Americans.” Topics for his “captivating stories” this week include “Allergic to Water: True Medical Phenomena,” “My Life as a Thief,” and “My Sister is a Hyena.” The 10-episode series debuts August 1.
