Stallone sues MGM over Rocky series.
The Contender star Sylvester Stallone is suing MGM over its plans for a Rocky-related reality TV show. He “has sued MGM and other producers of the planned boxing reality TV show The Real Rocky for allegedly improperly associating the project with Stallone’s ‘Rocky’ character,” Variety reports. Stallone created the Rocky character, and says in the suit that “immediately upon learning of ‘The Contender’ and Stallone’s role in it, MGM withdrew even its pretended support for the ‘Rocky VI’ film.” It also says that “references to the character ‘Rocky’ in connection with that program evoke the identity of Stallone to the consuming public and falsely and misleadingly implies that Stallone has endorsed or is somehow associated or affiliated with defendants’ ‘The Real Rocky’.”
