Michelle McManus wins Pop Idol 2.
A 23-year-old woman from Glasgow who claims Celine Dion as her idol won the UK’s Pop Idol 2. Michelle McManus beat Mark Rhodes, who two of the judges slammed after viewers voted him into the final two. Michelle is being called a “role model” because of her weight; a Glasgow University professor says “Scotland has an obesity issue that it must confront” and says Michelle “doesn’t undermine people that are overweight and rather, gives them confidence and sense of self-esteem to confront the problem.” 12 million viewers watched the finale, which was about 2 million shy of the first finale, the BBC reports.
