Chiara arrested for drunk driving; Big Brother lawyer worried the case would “[interfere] with her availability.”
The Smoking Gun has discovered that Big Brother 3 house guest Chiara Berti was arrested in L.A. in May for drunk driving, likely while she was there as part of the casting process. She was “charged with three misdemeanors: driving under the influence, driving with a blood alcohol content above California’s .08 limit, and driving without a license,” the site reports. The judge delayed her arraignment until Sept. 3, but wasn’t willing to delay it until beyond that date, telling Chiara’s lawyer, “Make sure she’s back.” Also, The Smoking Gun reports that “a lawyer representing Big Brother expressed concern to him [Chiara's lawyer] that the drunk driving case could “have interfered with her availability for the program”; her lawyer “assured the show’s representative that the criminal matter would not be a hindrance since he would be able to appear in Berti’s stead at court hearings.”

Beyond the headline-grabbing premise, the series has turned out to be a stripped-down, authentic exploration of something very interesting. Read the full review.
