Tom was arrested in 1979 at age 23 for “public drunkenness,” according to documents published by The Smoking Gun. The sentence was suspended after Tom pleaded guilty. According to The Star tabloid, there’s more to the story; it reports that football player Tom and his friends were arrested after they “busted up a gay bar,” “bursting in” and “trashing the place.” Tom’s father tells The Star, “The guys didn’t beat anybody up. They just ran them all out.”
